Rainy Day Activities

Rainy day on vacation? Come indoors to play in Massachusetts

Into every life a little rain must fall. When it does, Massachusetts turns up the indoor fun and competition. You can find indoor climbing gyms with sky ropes courses that test your balance and agility, including specially designed courses for kids ages 2-7. Indoor play spaces allow teenagers to enjoy their favorite multi-player video games and dance games; the youngest in the bunch can climb jungle gyms and ride slides in a three-story-tall play space. Parents will find spaces and places to join in the fun, eat great food, watch TV, and relax. Nearby are family friendly lodging and museums and galleries for more indoor adventures.

    Old Sturbridge Village

A little rain cannot put a damper on the experience of visitors to historical village

Rain does not dampen the spirits of visitors to Old Sturbridge Village, where 40 historical buildings, costumed historians, a lively assortment of heritage-breed animals and hands-on experiences have combined to re-create a classic New England village of the 1830s. And there’s plenty to do indoors! See how cider was made in the cider mill, watch lumber being turned out at the sawmill, help the tinsmith create an intricate lantern or the printer put together a must-read paper. Walk through homes both simple and ornate, check out the graffiti carved into the original desks in the schoolhouse. Have lunch in the Bullard Tavern or an amazing pastry in the Ox & Yoke Cafe. Check the website for the day’s schedule and information on special exhibitions.
