Massachusetts campgrounds are operated at many of the dozens of state forests and state parks throughout the state, including the Boston Harbor islands and on Cape Cod. Many private campgrounds also operate throughout the state, along the coast, in the Berkshire Mountains, and through the historic regions near Plymouth and Salem. A stay at an Massachusetts campground is a wonderful and inexpensive outdoor-oriented vacation for children and families, and people who love the beach, fishing, swimming, boating, and hiking.

Mohawk Trail State Forest

For a unique and rustic camping experience, stay in one of six overnight log cabins, available year-round. Camping season: mid-April - mid-October. Clarksburg State Park

Campground office hours are from 8 a.m. - 6 p.m. on weekdays, and 8 a.m. - midnight on weekends. Reservations are recommended. Beartown State Forest

Advanced reservations are available up to six months ahead of time, and even 24 hours before, if you're feeling spontaneous. D.A.R. State Forest

Everyone can enjoy nature in this forest: wheelchair accessible campsites are available. Camp here from mid-May through mid-October. Reservations are recommended. The group forest site is comfortable for large groups of up to 75 persons, with limited amenities. Otter River State Forest

Nickerson State Park
Inland park offers lots of camping; fresh water swimming, fishing and paddling; hiking and biking

Shawme-Crowell State Forest
Route 130 Sandwich, MA 02563 508-888-0351 This quiet year-round campground onn Cape Cod has more than 285 sites in a wooded setting. More than 15 miles of roads and trails provide hiking and horseback riding access to more than 700 acres. Camping fee includes parking at the beach at Scusset State Reservation. Camping season is mid-April through mid-October. Amenities include restrooms, interpretive programs, picnicking, showers, trailer and RV dumping. Off-season camping is available Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights.
Horseneck Beach State Reservation

Myles Standish State Forest

Tully Lake Campground
25 Doane Hill Road Royalston, MA 01368 978-840-4446 Set along the shores of a 200-acre lake, the Tully Lake Campground is a walk-in, tent-only campground offering modern conveniences and superb recreational opportunities in a wilderness-like setting. Paddle around Tully Lake in a canoe or kayak, hike the shoreline footpaths or the 18-mile Tully Trail, mountain bike on nearby trails, or take a day trip to scenic waterfalls and overlooks. Amenities include a modern bathhouse with hot water, toilets and showers, ice and firewood for sale onsite, volleyball, horseshoes, and canoe and kayak rentals.
Harold Parker State Forest

Camping is done at widely-spaced sites in a hardwood forest, with plenty of privacy. Camp sites has picnic tables and grills and bathrooms with hot showers. No electrical hookups. Salisbury Beach State Reservation
1 Beach Road - Route 1A Salisbury, MA 01952 508-462-4481 This ocean beach is very popular for trailer camping, offering 484 trailer sites. Camping season is May to October, but off-season camping, only from Thursdays through Sundays, is allowed from mid-October to late November. Wells State Park

The swimming beach at Walker Pond is limited only to campers. Rocky Woods
Just 30 minutes from downtown Boston
Hartford Street Medfield, MA 02052 508-785-0339 Rocky Woods features over six miles of former woods roads and footpaths rambling through rolling hills of white pine and red oak. Explorers of the four ponds on the reservation may find bullfrogs and painted turtles, and visitors can enjoy catch-and-release fishing from these shores. Recent landscape renovations have created a scenic meadow, grassy common areas, sandy shorelines, and plantings of ornamental shrubs.
